Older Toddler 2-3.6 Years Old
We all know just how beautiful and crucial these years are. Accordingly, we pledge to prepare our classrooms to be enticing and ready to meet the very needs of our students.
The classroom curriculum includes practical living, sensorial, mathematics, language, science, geography, art, and music education. Our Pre-Primary Program’s curriculum is entirely Montessori based. It is all inclusive and supports the physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of each child.
By utilizing the academic materials in the classroom, toddlers learn concentration, coordination, language skills, responsibility and respect. These aspects are vital to a successful transition into primary classroom. For example, in the mathematics area, they are exposed to materials such as “red and blue rods” that help them to develop an awareness of numbers, counting, sorting, classifying, patterning, one-to one correspondence, similarities and differences, observation skills, and basic math operations.
Montessori also exposes children to a variety of scientific areas, presented in simple, easy-to-understand, manipulative forms. They may study leaves- their shapes and colors. They will be able to classify animals, trees, flowers, birds. Children also assist in the care of classroom pets, plants, and a garden. Geography is experienced through globes, puzzle maps, books, stories, music, food, dance, and artifacts from other countries.
Materials in the Pre-Primary classroom are carefully constructed in order to serve the children a sense of satisfaction and independence in their learning. This is the age where they become curious and want to learn on their own. They will have the chance to explore all areas of the classroom hands-on with guidance from their teachers.
